GOG has always set itself apart by allowing players to choose what they need and free them from DRM. The new GOG Galaxy client is very similar to Valve’s own Steam but doesn’t restrict you to anything.
Players can easily install their favorite games through the platform, update them unlock new achievements and track their game time. But, it is completely optional and there is no need to be online all the time or report to the client that you are still within their boundary.
Instead, you can choose to skip it if you think it’s not required. When and where you need, GOG Galaxy will be there to help you. The Steam competitor is now in open beta and brings a whole lot of amazing features along with it.
Everything you would expect in a game client is found in GOG Galaxy including the ability to download updates, install games and also backup a copy of it in case you have to format your hard drive. There is also an option to rollback updates and play games offline without having to prove anything to it. It is definitely the Steam that you have been asking for!
Play with Steam Friends
GOG Galaxy also supports crossplay with Steam games so that you could easily find your friends and play with them wherever, you are. Multiplayer matchmaking, achievements tracking and even a new feature named game overlay is coming to the platform. It has a huge community and gives you the freedom of owning your game without restricting it.
If GOG ever closes down, you have nothing to worry about because the games are always there for you. Should Steam be scared? Maybe, only time will tell!
