Qualcomm has a habit of revealing their next gen chips and graphic cards months earlier to its official launch. The announcement help them stir interest among consumers and investors.
The latest is the Snapdragon 820 processor which will use a powerful graphics processor, the Adreno 530. From the sample screenshots posted by the company on their official blog, the graphics look extremely realistic and probably something that could compete with console quality AAA titles.
It’s not easy to bring games like Crysis and Far cry on tables or smartphones. But, Nvidia proved everyone wrong with their Tegra chips that were able to run the latest games or at least many of them.
Being the leaders in mobile processing technology, Qualcomm wouldn’t give up easily and it looks like their ultimate aim is to make mobile gaming as contemporary as possible. A PS4 or an Xbox One console runs on actual hardware rather than the minimized version used in phones.
However, Adreno 530 GPU mounted on the Snapdragon 820 processor promises to be 40% more powerful than the Adreno 430 and will be consume 40% less power so that it doesn’t have a significant impact on battery life.
Apart from the GFX, the Qualcomm Spectra Camera ISP is a new technology which promises to support wide range of colors, natural skin tones and capture the environment as it is. Photography is expected to receive a huge boost with this tech if manufacturer adopt them in their smartphones and tablets.
