Mafia III is easily one of the anticipated launches but the game’s PC version has been met with a lot of negative reviews on Steam on its launch day.
Developed by Hangar 13 and published by 2K games, it is the third iteration in the Mafia series and had a really promising start. Right from reveal trailer, players were mesmerized by the impeccable graphics, action packed gameplay and character appeal. A lot of them pre-ordered it and probably many purchased it on launch day if we are to go by the number of Steam reviews online right now.
Obviously, PC gamers expect the game to run out of the box without any hiccups. So does PS4 and Xbox One gamers! When you pay $60 to purchase a product, you expect it to work. It wasn’t the case with Mafia III because the game was locked to just 30 frames per second by the developers. It was the first of many surprises leading to frequent crashes, hardware incompatibility and more complaints on Steam reviews.
The launch was a total disaster and when it got the attention of developers Hangar 13, the team responded with an official statement. They confirmed that the game will not be locked to 30 FPS and a post launch update is coming soon to fix it.
“We are aware of the fact that you need more options to tweak the game to suit your PC’s capabilities. We are working on an update which should allow you to play at higher framerates and additional improvements will be rolled out along with it. It should give players more control over the game’s graphical settings and customize it to match their gaming rig. We will soon be back with a release date for the post-launch update. Our journey with Mafia III has been incredible and we are open to more feedback from you to make it better,” read the statement on their official website.
Reviews are yet to be out and most probably they will be from PS4, Xbox One platforms. If Mafia III doesn’t turn out to be the next Arkham City, it would be a welcome relief. You can read the official post here.
