Garmin bands are known for their ease of use, fitness tracking capabilities but users have always asked for more safety features. The developers have now incorporated a new location tracking system to keep people you know notified of your location.
Strava was the company which originally designed the Beacon, a location streaming app. It continued to run individually on iOS and Android apps but is now integrated into select Garmin fitness bands. You can go all the cycling, hiking or kayaking you want without worrying those around you. The real time data location service keeps sending updates about you to friends or family. Up to three people can be signed up to spot you and drop in to help if the situation demands.
Garmin fitness bands including Edge, Forerunner, Fenix 3 supports the new location tracking app. Beacon syncs with LiveTrack to provide your wellwishers with updates on your heart rate, location, battery status, activity you are engaged in and all this can be done without having to create a Strava account.
Safety was utmost priority for fitness lovers and those around them. Garmin worked closely with the community before they decided to unveil this feature first, before working on other areas of their fitness trackers. The list of devices that support the new Beacon service includes Garmin Edge 520, Edge 820, Edge 1000, Edge Explore 920, Forerunner 230, Forerunner 235, Forerunner 630, Forerunner 735XT and Fenix 3.
