Apple is making some big changes in the company right now because they faced one issue after the other in the form of bent iPads and lesser than expected iPhone XS, XR sales. The company is aiming at 2020 to be the future when things are going to change drastically.
The year 2019 will not witness any significant upgrades but you have to wait another year for Apple to actually think of foldable displays and curved displays with hover touch technology. In order to make this all possible, they should finally get rid of LCD displays permanently as they consume more power and are not designed to be adopted for screens with varying shapes.
A recent update and lots of rumors from the past already claim that Apple is trying to come up with foldable displays. Samsung has already unveiled theirs and it is no wonder their big time competitor will follow suit. The iPhone XR could possibly be the cheap phone with a LCD display and it could be the last as well for obvious reasons.
The complete shift to OLED displays will bring down production costs, boost innovation and it is something the company has already intimated to their manufacturing partners. They will be ready to deliver all the displays Apple needs for their future phones and possibly a foldable display as well when it gets launched, most probably in September, 2020 which is still more than a year to go from now.
Samsung has retained the headphone jack so far and Google is rumored to launch a Pixel 3 Lite with the 3.5mm headphone jack in 2019. Such rumors further affect the future path Apple would take because headphone manufacturers haven’t changed much to USB Type C even at CES 2019 and they are highly unlikely to adopt it en masse as many smartphone manufacturers expected. It affects how Apple will react to the industry if the 3.5mm audio jack is to return with their competitors once again.
