Instagram is not going to let Tik Tok enjoy all the limelight because the Chinese app has been ruling both Asia and the Western countries with their viral videos. The FaceBook-owned app has rolled out a new feature named Reels in Brazil which is very similar to Tik Tok and Musically.
The Instagram feature allows users to create 15-seconds video remixes that they can share on their own stories and expect it to go viral. While their competitor directly focuses on rolling out millions of music videos every hour, this will be part of their services in the stories section. The developers plan to make it viral eventually as they have a massive user base and once they know they can mimic videos with background music, it should work out well.
Reels is launched only in Brazil and Instagram is supposed to compete against Tik Tok which has a total user count of a whopping 1.5 billion users around the globe. In their official statement the company’s director claimed that even though it does look similar, no two products are the same. Besides, the idea is to allow their own billion users enjoy and make some unique videos that are unlike what Tik Tok users produce.
Instagram Reels is focused on Brazil because of their large user base there and once all the issues are ironed out in one region, they will look into making it a global announcement. The idea is also to focus in countries where the musical video app is not so popular and grab the untapped market share quickly.
The videos can be made with massive music collection found in Facebook or even upload their own song, they can share it in their Instagram Stories as well as directly send it to a friend through messages. A publicly shared Reel will be available for more than 24-hours, giving it even time to go viral and stay there.
