Throughout the years, Facebook has undergone very few major design changes and the fact that they didn’t make any major change in the past few years stand proof to the claim that the website direly needs an overhaul. Bringing a new change to the UI may alienate some users but it is necessary in order to stay relevant in the constantly changing app zone.
The announcement that a new Facebook UI overhaul will be done was announced at the F8 conference that took place in 2019 and while it is yet to be fully featured for desktop users, latest news confirmed that the new design is now being loaded to some users. Gradually, it will be introduced for all of them finally giving a chance for people to feel as if they are using a new social website and not an old version which is what Facebook looks like so far.
Focus on Groups and Events
Similar to other major companies like Microsoft and Google, Facebook wants to directly focus on the content that people use the most. In the overhauled user interface, major focus will be on the Groups and Events as they have a massive fan following. The company addresses it as the New Facebook and for many reasons, it seems like a good claim to make because the new design, focus on content and everything else hardly resembles what the Old Facebook used to be.
The update will automatically rollout to both desktop and mobile apps in the following weeks to users around the globe. Let’s hope it makes it a more fun experience to use because adopting to suit the times is necessary. Microsoft has made their own Chromium based Edge browser to compete with other browsers and FB making a similar move to stay ahead of competition in the social media space sounds plausible.
