Sony has officially announced that they will not be participating in E3 2020 event and it has indirectly confirmed that PS5 will not get launched in this event. Instead, they are planning to have smaller events split across the globe in order to better reach gamers and Microsoft’s Xbox will go completely solo at E3 without any direct competition.
In the past few years, Microsoft has strongly defined their route to be more PC-friendly while Nintendo Switch has comfortably adopted so many not-so-family-friendly titles on their platform. However, Sony prefers old school PS5 to be the best bet as millions of gamers love the approach. With half-a-dozen exclusive game titles like the next God of War and the Last of Us 2, PlayStation 5 is set for a great console generation.
The decision to completely walk out of E3 2020 from hosting a press conference sounds not the best way to bring their newest console PS5 to the majority of people. The reason behind this decision remains unclear but as soon as Sony made the announcement official, Xbox division was quick to spring back. They announced on Twitter that they are looking forward to E3 2020 and are working hard to make it one of the best events that gamers can look forward to.
Players are still in the oblivion on how the PS5 console would look like but it won’t be long. Microsoft has already announced the design of the Xbox Series X and it looks like a CPU without any doubts. Being a gamer-friendly choice, Sony should opt for a more conventional console design which we can confirm once they make the announcements in the following months much earlier to E3 2020 as they have opted to not participate in the event.
The concept of big conferences at E3 is undergoing a major change and it is to be seen how the brands handle it in future as Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo manage their conferences digitally or simply walk out of it.
