Why Was PS Vita Featured in 2038 in the Last of Us 2?

Sony launched their latest PS4 exclusive title the Last of Us 2 gameplay video and the 21 minute long video sparked lots of interest combined with an equally good number of criticism. One of the crowd favorite is that the character was playing a PS Vita featured in 2038, the year when the game was supposed to take place.

Everyone knows Sony has abandoned the console but wouldn’t stop rolling out updates so as to make sure no one uses it as a handheld emulator. However, the company is not giving up on their device even decades later from now.

In all the interviews, the developers claim that the Last of Us 2 is one of the most realistic and authentic games that they have designed in years. While many of the details in the game are amazingly well done, it is disturbing to see a screenshot where the game’s character is playing a PS Vita handheld console.

Of course, we know that Sony just can’t feature a Nintendo Switch in their game but they could have possibly gone with a futuristic depiction of some random console. However, they choose to feature the exact console that is available in stores now. The company has been steadily reducing production and has stopped manufacturing the device in many key areas yet they would expect gamers to overlook the fact that the PS Vita featured in 2038 is more of realism but not a fantasy.

The Last of Us 2 is all set to get launched in the month of June amidst much hype and is a welcome addition to the pandemic world because people are super excited to have some good news shared during these demanding times.

The sales number of the game is something everyone is looking forward to which might help Sony break another record on the PlayStation 4 console.
